Ridiculously professional editing and self-publishing services
I know how to make you look good
Hi, I'm Janet Schmanet, I mean Schwind.
I’m a ridiculously professional author, editor, self-publishing coach, artist, inventor, 5-minute public speaker, and Camino pilgrim.
I edit books for many first-time authors, helping them easily navigate the mysteries of self-publishing and taking their next right step. My specialty genres are non-fiction, faith based, spiritual growth, memoirs, and children’s stories.
I wrote a little book to help aspiring authors take their first steps into publishing. It’s called Just Publish It: The Ridiculously Simple Way to Self-Publish Like a Pro.
With the easy-to-follow- info in Just Publish It, you won’t have any more excuses—just a simple path that leads you through one completely doable step to the next, in their proper order, until your book is up for sale online.
My current project in progress is Book of Jerry: Bible Wisdom Straight Outta the Bronx. This is one translation you probably haven’t heard yet, the BLT (Bacon Lettuce Tomato translation). Book of Jerry is a street-smart, grammatically impaired, almost-certainly-embellished translation of scriptures and Bible stories in a way you’ve never heard ’em before—real-talk, in-your-face, Italian New Yawkah style. Ba-da-BING!
Aside from editing, writing and drawing, I love to read—and no, editing books doesn’t make me tired of reading. Never never. I also love to write poems—like my Cubs tribute.
That’s me, in a nutshell. If you wanna crack the (Ja)nut, go to my about page and discover many intriguing things about me, like why I walked 500 miles across Spain.
Enjoy my website, and if you want to start a conversation, connect with me on my contact page—I’d love to hear from you!
Your voice. Your words. Only better.
Real Success Stories
Trillions of happy clients
Janet copy-edited my memoir “Dating Daddy: Realizing God as Father through Daddy Issues and Bad Romance.” At the time Janet completed a trial edit, I was extremely vulnerable and sensitive about the personal stories I chose to share in the book. Yet, her caring feedback made it clear that I could trust her with this project and gave me the sense that I could not publish it without her. Not only did she clean up the manuscript with a fine tooth comb, but reading her notes and comments on the draft felt like she was in the room guiding me through the writing process. She truly is RIDICULOUSLY PROFESSIONAL and trustworthy to take your writing project to the next level!

I had the honor and privilege to have Janet as both my editor and project manager for A Gradual Redemption as well as A Beautiful Restoration. The time and dedication she brought to each publication was unparalleled. From start to finish, Janet was thorough in the review and corrections in the manuscripts, brought constructive criticism to the areas that needed rewritten, and functioned as the liaison and coordinator between the writer and the publishing team. Her eye for detail exceeds the scope of writing; she went above and beyond to ascertain that my publisher and I had met the legal requirements of publishing as well as led the way to certainty that our finished product was without errors. In all ways Janet is a delight to work with—timely, professional and fully committed to producing the very best product for her clients.

Will I enjoy talking with you over a couple of beers? That’s the metric I used to decide if I wanted to work with an editor and I’m glad I chose Janet Schwind. If you’re lucky, you’ll get to see her sense of humor, but don’t be mistaken—she is an editing professional to the core. She got down to work and did a phenomenal job on my manuscript. Janet worked as the developmental editor and line editor for my book, Season of Upsets. Her comments during the developmental phase made a big difference in helping me create a stronger narrative and her grasp of the Chicago Manual of Style is outstanding. She seriously geeks out over grammar, spelling, and punctuation. Who doesn’t want that from their editor? I know I sure did.
